A dated checklist makes tasks easier to see, but it cannot know your lease, household, providers, or building rules. Use our timeline as a set of planning prompts. Confirm real deadlines separately, then rearrange the work around them.

Put fixed commitments first

Start with the moving date, access times, transport, and any provider-specific deadlines. These are the constraints around which packing has to fit. Contact the relevant provider or building manager when something is unclear. A date generated by our checklist is a suggestion, not an official requirement.

Pack by how soon you need something

Begin with belongings you can comfortably leave packed. Keep frequently used items available until you have a plan for replacing them temporarily. A room-by-room list helps you see progress, while an “Open first” marker helps you decide what comes off the stack at the other end.

If you have less than six weeks

Do not treat the earlier dates as overdue obligations. Read through the entire checklist once and mark tasks already done or irrelevant. Confirm transport and access, identify essential items, and work through the remaining packing. A short, realistic plan is more useful than trying to recreate a timeline that no longer fits.

Make the handoff easy

Other people may help carry boxes without knowing your system. Use plain room names, visible numbers, and matching room signs. Keep the checklist and essential contact details accessible. If several people are packing, agree on a single list so the same number is not assigned to different boxes.

Leave room for the first few days

You do not need to finish every room on moving day. Find the things you need to sleep, wash, and eat. Then choose one priority area at a time. Keep a note of outstanding provider updates and household tasks, rather than trying to remember everything while unpacking.
